How to use a Group block

A Group block is used to collect other blocks together on the page. This allows you to control sets of blocks at the same time.

You can also use it to add a transcript underneath a video you have uploaded yourself if you use a Media & Text block.

How to use a Group block

You can use this to copy collections of blocks (to repeat the layout on the page).

How to add a Group block

To add a Group block to your page:

  1. Click the plus (‘+’) button to add a block to your page.
  2. Type ‘group’.
  3. Click the ‘Group’ option.
  4. Click ‘Row’ to arrange blocks horizontally, or ‘Stack’ to arrange them vertically.
  5. Click the ‘+’ (plus) icon to add a block to the group.
  6. Click just above to top of this block to highlight the group (this will show a blue rectangle).
  7. Click the ‘+’ (plus) in the bottom right corner to add another block.

How to copy a Group block

To copy a Group block on your page:

  1. Click just above to top of the first block in your group to highlight the group (this will show a blue rectangle).
  2. Click the ‘three dots’ (Options) button on the context menu.
  3. Click ‘Group’.

How to make a group from existing blocks

To make a group from existing blocks:

  1. Click and drag on your page to select the blocks you want to group.
  2. Click the ‘three dots’ (Options) button on the context menu.
  3. Click ‘Copy block’.
  4. Click where you want the group to appear on the page.
  5. Right-click and select ‘Paste’

How to use a group to link to a transcript beneath a Media & Text video

You need to include a transcript and captions with any videos you add to your site to meet accessibility guidelines. Find out more about how to make videos accessible.

Write this transcript in a new page on your site before you add a link to it. To add a transcript link beneath a video:

  1. Click the plus (‘+’) button to add a block to your page.
  2. Type ‘group’.
  3. Click the ‘Group’ option.
  4. Click ‘Stack’.
  5. Click the ‘+’ (plus) icon to use a Media & Text block with a video.
  6. Click the ‘+’ (plus) in the bottom right corner to add another block.
  7. Type ‘Paragraph’.
  8. Click the ‘Paragraph’ option.
  9. Type a description of what the video shows.
  10. Type ‘Link to a transcript of the video’.
  11. Select this text then click ‘Link’ from the contextual menu.
  12. Add the link to the transcript page on your site.
